ADS is currently working with the Shepherdstown Public Library to design their new, state of the art facility. Our services include review of previous studies, programming, public workshops and focus groups, meeting with steering committees and boards, and development of a comprehensive program report and project budget.
In addition to incorporating ideas needed for a 21st century library, the design includes energy efficient and sustainable concepts.
The library is built into a hill which allows an on grade entrance for the children’s reading room on the upper level. A double height porch and arcade at the lower level opens to a terrace and event green for outdoor events. The ‘commons’ functions as a bright space for library users to eat lunch or have a cup of coffee as well as flexible meeting space and gallery for after hour community events. A grand stair connects the upper pedestrian entrance with the main entry. Both the adult and children’s reading rooms have an open plan to provide flexibility in the future.
